- Coarse-grit resin polishing pad for the first resin step on detail work — 50 grit is the most aggressive resin pad in the standard polishing sequence, used as the first resin step after metal-bond grinding has opened the surface. The 3" size is the standard format for detail polishing, countertop edges, stair nosings, integral coves, and any work too small or precise for a 5" or 7" pad.

- Compact 3" diameter for the tightest detail areas — the 3" footprint is engineered for spots where even a 5" pad can't reach: tight inside corners, narrow recessed bands, around plumbing penetrations, on countertop edges and bullnoses, and on stair treads. At 50 grit specifically, this is the pad that takes a freshly ground edge or countertop and starts removing the metal-bond scratch pattern.

- Wet/Dry resin-bonded construction — diamonds are bonded in a resin matrix that wears progressively to keep fresh cutting points exposed. Usable wet or dry: wet polishing reduces heat and extends pad life, dry polishing is more convenient for small detail work without water access.

- Requires a 3" backing pad with hook-and-loop attachment — the standard mount is a 5/8"-11 threaded backer for hand polishers, or an M14 backer for grinders with metric spindles. The backer's diameter must match the pad's diameter — never run a 3" pad on a 4" or 5" backer (exposed hook-and-loop at high RPM is a safety hazard). Most variable-speed hand polishers run 3" pads optimally in the 1,500–3,000 RPM range.

- The first resin step for detail areas — per industry guidance, the resin sequence begins at 50 grit after metal-bond grinding is complete. Typical progression: metal-bond grinding → transitional / hybrid diamonds → resin polishing pads (50, 100, 200, 400, 800, 1500, 3000). Match the 3" pad's grit progression to the main surface's progression exactly — running the detail areas one or two grits behind the main floor causes visible gloss differences in the final finish.
