  • Specialized metal bond for hard cap removal and extremely hard concrete — Lavina's newest metal bond formulation, developed specifically for removing the hardened surface layer ("cap") of power-troweled commercial floors and for cutting extremely hard concrete around 9,000 PSI and above (Mohs 8–9). Distinct from the standard Lavina Black metal — the Cap Cutters are a separate product category with a different bond engineered for the hardest surfaces in the industry.
  • Lavina Quick Change (QC) mounting — the QC system uses the standard Lavina mounting pattern for fast tool swaps without bolts or tools. Compatible with Lavina grinders and other machines that accept the QC platform. Always confirm your grinder mount type before ordering — the QC system is distinct from Lavina's older dot/button platforms.
  • Double-segment configuration for heavier machines — two diamond segments per shoe create more surface contact than a single segment, extending tool life and stabilizing the cut. Lavina recommends double-segment tools for grinders 30" and larger, where the extra contact patch helps the machine pull weight efficiently. Single-segment Cap Cutters cut faster on lighter machines under 25".
  • 30 grit is the recommended starting point for cap removal and exposed-aggregate work — per Lavina's guidance, 30-grit metals are the right opener "to expose medium to large aggregate" or to break through a hard cap before progressing through the standard polishing sequence. After this pass, the typical progression steps up through 70 and 120-grit metals, then into resin polishing pads beginning at 50 grit resin.
  • Pairs with the Blue Cap Cutters for two-stage hard-cap jobs — Lavina offers a companion Blue Cap Cutter (X2S-CC-0030) designed for cutting the medium-to-soft concrete underneath the hard cap. The typical workflow: Black Cap Cutters break through the surface layer, then switch to Blue Cap Cutters once the softer concrete beneath is exposed. This two-step approach prevents the Black from burning out on the softer material and prevents the Blue from glazing on the cap.
